CHURCH CALENDAR

At Church of Christ the King, our Church calendar centers on key events in the life of Jesus Christ and the foundational teachings of Scripture.

Our year begins with Advent, a season of anticipation and preparation for the birth of Christ, culminating in a joyous Christmas Eve service.

As we journey through the year, we reflect on the life and ministry of Jesus, leading up to Easter. On the Wednesday before Easter, we hold our "Facing the Cross" service, a special time of reflection on Christ's sacrifice and redemptive work.

In October, we commemorate Reformation Sunday, celebrating our heritage and the enduring truths of the Reformation.

During the November Thanksgiving season, we gather for a dedicated service of Thanksgiving, expressing our gratitude to God for His abundant blessings. Each observance invites us to deepen our faith, grow in community, and draw nearer to God through worship and reflection.

FACING THE CROSS

Held on the Wednesday before Easter, the Facing the Cross service is a somber candlelight communion service focusing on the events leading up to Christ's crucifixion. Through a series of Scripture readings and hymns, the service recounts key moments from Jesus' last supper to His burial. The congregation participates in communion and is invited to reflect silently on Christ's sacrifice. The service concludes with the stripping of the communion table, symbolizing Christ's death and burial, as the congregation leaves in reverent silence

EASTER

The Easter Sunday service at Church of Christ the King is a joyful celebration of Christ’s resurrection. The service opens with a triumphant greeting, “The Lord is risen! The Lord is risen indeed!” and includes traditional Easter hymns like "Christ the Lord Is Risen Today." Scripture readings proclaim the hope found in Christ’s resurrection, and the service concludes with communion, congregational singing and rejoicing in the risen Savior.

REFORMATION SUNDAY

The Reformation Sunday service at Church of Christ the King celebrates the foundational principles of the Reformation, particularly the "Five Solas": Sola Scriptura, Sola Fide, Sola Gratia, Solus Christus, and Soli Deo Gloria. The service includes traditional Reformed hymns such as "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God" by Martin Luther. The message emphasizes the authority of Scripture, and the congregation participates in communion and prayers inspired by the Reformers. This service is both a time of worship and reflection on the lasting impact of the Reformation.

THANKSGIVING

Our Thanksgiving service is a joyful and reflective occasion filled with hymns of praise and thanksgiving to God for His many blessings. The congregation participates in offering thanks through a time of reflection, sharing what they are grateful for. The service concludes with a communion and a litany of thanksgiving, affirming God’s enduring goodness and steadfast love. This is the only Sunday service of year where congregational confession is not included.

CHRISTMAS EVE

The service includes a procession and candle lighting, followed by nine lessons from Genesis, Isaiah, Luke, and John, recounting the story of the fall, promise, and fulfillment of Christ's coming. Hymns such as "O Come All Ye Faithful" and "Silent Night" accompany each lesson, culminating in the joyous proclamation of Christ's birth.
